Semifinal Contests
The participants chosen as finalists of the Prefectural Contests are eligible to participate in the Semifinal Contests in Tokyo.
Qualifications:
Top three speakers chosen from each Prefectural Contest, with the following exceptions: four contestants from Aichi and Fukuoka, and five contestants from Tokyo, Osaka, Kanagawa, Hokkaido.

Northern Japan District: Hokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, Akita, Miyagi, Yamagata, Nigata, Fukushima, Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Gifu
